SINGLE Review: 'Better Alone'-Sid Stone

Somerset born Sid Stone is one of the UK's most exciting artists and multi-instrumentalists. Sid’s moving debut single ‘Better Alone’ is the lead track from his ‘Inside/Outside’ mixtape, out now on Hotspring Music. The track is piano-driven and jazz influenced, with pop vibes. It was inspired by a late night walk.

'Better Alone' has laid back vibes which suit the lockdown but would also be great for a party too (post-lockdown, of course). The jazz influences really make 'Better Alone' stand out from the crowd and his vocals are soulful. Personally, I'm really enjoying this track.

The music video for the song was shot at Sid's local pub-The White Horse in Shepherd's Bush. It captures life before and during lockdown. It gives us an insight into Sid's world.

“It’s all about making peace with being alone, but also it came out of situations built on friendship and love.” Sid said of the track. “So who knows: the truth is sometimes hidden between two opposites!”

SINGLE Review: 'Monty Python'-Connie Constance

'Monty Python' is an upbeat track with urgent guitars and lo-fi drums. Connie's vocals are captivating in this rousing track. Connie Constance is a refreshingly frank storyteller and, with 'Monty Python' she describes feeling wildly out of place at fancy dinner parties.

Her sound is undeniably British. "I hate Friday nights alone," she sings energetically. 'Monty Python' is an effortless yet deliberately raw.

Connie is influenced by a range of genres from jazz to reggae and dub to punk and indie.

She's also launched her own label 'Jump The Fence'.

SINGLE Review: 'How We Care'-Ben Hobbs

Based in South London, Ben fuses bedroom pop with 70s and 80s nostalgia. 'How We Care' is the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist's return to the music scene. With his sound, Ben is doing something no one else is at the moment. His vocals are effortlessly passionate and the track is perfect for summer days.

'How We Care' begins with a spine-tingling sincerity. It's soulful electronic pop and a slight sonic departure from his previous work.

Discussing the creative process behind the track, Ben tells us: "I’d been listening quite a lot to RY X and John Mayer at that time and I really wanted a song that was soulful with a contemporary spin, and a guitar solo. I was introduced to a songwriter called Paul Usher and we were sat working on this idea that had a moody guitar riff and verse. Paul suggested taking it somewhere really different for the chorus. We’d been talking loads about Marvin Gaye and Leon Ware songs and we really just combined and blended these ideas into what you hear today."
